The Iconotheca Valvasoriana is the largest facsimile print collection in the world and unique because it contains an art-historical study of every single impression of a copperplate / woodcut / drawing … in three languages. The price of the collection at the time of publication was € 30,000.
17 large-format volumes, with 7,752 sheets of prints – prints, drawings and watercolours – by well-known and unknown – German, Austrian, Dutch, Flemish, French, Italian, English and Carniola – masters of the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, including such artists as Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, Rembrandt and Jacques Callot …
100 leather-bound sets were produced.
The Royal Society of England, the Vatican Library, the Library of Congress in Washington, Columbia University, the Cambridge University Library, the National Library of China in Beijing, the Albertina Museum in Austria, the Melbourne City Library, the National Libraries of Belarus and the Ukraine, etc. have their own copies.
Only a few copies are privately owned. One of them is now for sale.
